After the “LEADER Radoffensive” was completed by the KUS in February 2019, the optimization of the cycling and hiking trails in the district of Pfaffenhofen is to be continued. At the beginning of May 2019, the KUS received the approval notice for the project from the Amt für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Forsten (AELF)(Office for Food, Agriculture and Forestry.
In addition to planning the signage for 700 kilometers of the existing cycle path network, the project plan also included the production and installation of the signs. But not only the cycle paths, 380 kilometers of the existing hiking trail network are also part of the project.
The aim of the project is to enhance the district and its infrastructure for commuters, citizens and tourists alike.

Project goals
- Upgrading the cycle path structure in the district for commuters, leisure cyclists and tourists

- Signage planning: creation of print templates according to FGSV standard; development of new themed tours; integration of existing themed tours/long-distance cycle paths; creation of separate location data sheets; basic development for ordering materials; design of OSM content

- Sign installation: installation of the signs including adaptation to safety-relevant aspects and regulations

LEADER in Bavaria
With the LEADER program, the Staatsministerium (State Ministry) supports rural regions on their path to self-determined development – true to the motto “Citizens shape their homeland”.
LEADER is an abbreviation of the French terms: Liaison entre les actions de développement de l’économie rurale; in English: Link between actions to develop the rural economy. The LEADER funding program is a success story for the development of rural regions in Bavaria. The focus is on the Local Action Groups (LAGs). They are partnerships between municipal, economic and socially committed stakeholders in the region.
68 LAGs have been recognized for the 2014 – 2020 funding period. This means that the Bavarian LEADER area covers 86% of the state area and 58% of the population. Around € 111 million in EU and state funds are available for the projects.
